There are no losers. Excepting those who fail to realize we are all on the same team and learn to play a new position.
You are a WINNER in many categories: Business, Economy, Jobs - Just-in-time delivery without traffic jams. Spend less on auto insurance. Less tax need. (California's $20 billion Prop 1B transportation bond won't even prevent increasing traffic congestion. It would take on the order of $200 billion to reduce congestion with 20th Century road lanes, buses, or trains.) Families - Spend less time at hospitals or gathering for funerals. Car & Truck Drivers - No traffic congestion. More predictable arrival times. Spend less on auto insurance. Environment - Incorporate fuel economy and biofuels into the CHALLENGE. The technology already eliminates "big car is safer" and "motorcycles/bicycles are dangerous" concerns. Police and Construction Workers - No more dying at the hands of inattentive motorists. Auto Manufacturers - The increasing performance requirements for driving in the fast lane will spur new car demand. Visionary Politicians - Most politicians are ideological. It's tough to be visionary outside an ideology. Older Drivers - No loss of independence. Your vehicle becomes as smart as a horse. (A trained horse won't run into people or another horse.)
Applying technology to transportation is really a win-win for everyone.
